about ME.
I’m an experienced editor with a PhD in English Literature.
I have industry experience as Production Editor for the Open University and Assistant Editor for a commercial book publisher. I have provided proofreading and editing services for numerous freelance projects including The National Trust for Scotland, academic presses and NGOs.
I’ve worked on a variety of material from religious non-fiction titles; books on well-being and parenting; gift and poetry books; academic textbooks; historical fiction and educational material.
I'm friendly, professional and efficient, and my working style reflects this: I will help get your manuscript to the best it can be while taking into account author style and preferences and making sure we keep a great working relationship!
I can copyedit and mark up your unformatted manuscript, preparing it for typesetting, and will check proofs when set.
I provide reference and fact checking services; check spelling, grammar and syntax; and provide stylistic feedback when appropriate.
I can work to your house style but can also help you develop your own house style guide and manage your publishing schedule.
I can check manuscripts that have been converted for eBook, as well as check for scanning errors when reprinting back titles.
I absolutely love editing and can’t wait to work with you on your project!
“Fiona gave me helpful feedback for my novel including insight on my niggling plotline doubts and grammatical queries. She has a friendly and warm approach and was realistic and transparent in her timeline for reviewing my manuscript. I would certainly use her again.”
